PROJET PHUOC LAM

Projet Phuoc Lam

In 2019, the president of the association Dr. Alain Huynh met through the Sisters of St. Paul of Chartres Father Tran Ngoc Tuyen. The latter took him to visit Phuoc Lam, a small village of 2000 inhabitants situated in the commune of Dai Loc, in the province of Quang Nam and one hour from the great tourist city of Danang.

The situation in the village of Phuoc Lam is very worrying and the living conditions of the inhabitants are difficult. Their resources come essentially from the harvest of fruits and vegetables, so their income is dependent on the weather and climate change often disrupted by natural disasters (floods, landslides, drought). This economic situation often forces the inhabitants to migrate to find precarious jobs, leaving children and elderly people behind in the village.

There is no school canteen in the village: children from poor social conditions do not have enough to eat.

One of the major problems of this village is the access to drinking water: The village has no drinking water supply and the water used comes from a stream captured on the mountainside, providing water unfit for consumption. The presbytery has a filtering device that produces 500 litres of drinking water per day and it is  available to the villagers free of charge. Nevertheless, this production is clearly insufficient for the needs of the local population.

Finally, regarding the access to health care, the inhabitants of Phuoc Lam do not have a doctor's office or hospital within 60 km.

Struck by the living conditions of the inhabitants of this village, we decided to set up a project to help them.Four members of our association, Master students at the Ferrières Hotel School and Grenoble Ecole de Management, have set up the following actions:

1

access to drinking water

We call upon Safe Water Cube to install a water fountain that will make 1000L of drinking water per hour.

2

The collective restaurant

We financed the construction of a 50-cover canteen last year, and set up a system of donations and sponsorships so that the children can eat to their fill.

A sponsorship is 15 euros per child/month

3

Activities and training

We are considering the creation of a place of recreation for children and young people. On the other hand, we will carry out a mission to carry out an educational campaign to prevent domestic accidents as well as an awareness campaign on waste collection for the children of this village.

4

Health care access

Our association organizes and finances one medical mission per year. It is composed of 2 Vietnamese doctors from Ho Chi Minh City who will stay in the village 5 days a year.

5

Audit

We will carry out an audit mission on site with the aim of developing the local economy in order to limit the rural exodus from Phuoc Lam.
